The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), states on its website that each year, “millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition. In 2013, President Obama proclaimed May as National Mental Health Awareness Month and brought the issue of mental health to the forefront of our nation’s thoughts.” Each year, the movement grows stronger. Along with many organizations around the country, Local 28 is dedicating our efforts to spread mental health awareness throughout the month of May.
Mental Health America
2021: The State of Mental Health in America
"Tools 2 Thrive" during Mental Health Month
"Mental Health America is committed to promoting mental health as a critical part of overall wellness. We advocate for prevention services for all, early identification and intervention for those at risk, integrated services, care and treatment for those who need them, and recovery as the goal."
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
"Mental health is an important part of overall health and well-being. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood."
The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness
"Why should we include eating disorders in mental health awareness month? During this year’s Mental Health Awareness Month, it is imperative that we bring eating disorders to the forefront of the conversation. With intervention and access to care, recovery is possible…and it’s happening. If you or a loved one is currently struggling with an eating disorder, it’s important to know that you are not alone."
